The first Paris Fashion Week took place on November 28, 1973 and was supervised by Eleanor Lambert, who is the founder of New York fashion week. This event was was the first time that collections of Haute Couture, prêt-à-porter, and menswear were showcased together in Paris!

The catwalk originated in the Paris Fashion Week, somewhere in the 70s. Since then, it has become an international standard and yardstick by which models are judged.
Mannequins were first used instead of models
During the 18th century, dresses were displayed on mannequins instead of human models. It was quite difficult for buyers to have an idea as to how it would fit on a human being. Thus, Mr. Charles Frederick Worth came up with the idea to have fashion dresses fitted to human models instead of mannequins, and this is how he became the brain father of Haute Couture!
